Frédéric GagnonEng., M.Sc.
Specialty: Structural and Civil Engineering
Frédéric Gagnon joined the multidisciplinary team of CEP Quebec in January 2009. Frédéric holds a Bachelor Degree in civil engineering, obtained in 2002 at Laval University and a Master's Degree in structures and materials, also at Laval University.
Frédéric has acquired a considerable experience in the field of construction, concrete and structures. Prior to joining CEP, Frédéric was a research engineer with the Research Center on Concrete Infrastructures (CRIB) of Laval University. He then mainly participated in research projects concerning the behaviour of fresh concretes and placing methods of conventional and special concretes. He was also a lecturer at Laval University for a course on the maintenance and repair of structures (Entretien et réfection des structures) offered to soon to be graduate Bachelor students in Civil Engineering.
As a forensic engineer, Frédéric carries out on-site investigations and prepares technical investigation reports. He is called to participate in case files where failures have occurred to buildings or structures, such as concrete element failures (cracking, disaggregation, scaling, etc.), foundation movements and failure or collapse of structures (wood, steel and concrete). He also verifies compliance of elements with standards and good practices. When necessary, he performs laboratory tests, studies and structural modeling to validate his hypotheses on the nature and cause of damage.
He has carried out over 600 investigations and has been recognized as an expert witness in Court.
